Over 8000 linear feet of IPÉ was used to build this extensive project!
The constructions of new walkways in IPÉ wood allows visitors to stroll along the canopy and observe easily from different levels all the animals and plants that live at various heights, therefore giving another perspective on the numerous ecosystems.
IPÉ wood is extremely dense (2.5 times denser than maple!) and is known for its exceptional durability and remarkable flame-retardancy properties. Furthermore, it contains no chemicals, is highly resistant to stains, rot and insects and it has a distinctive rich appearance.
Often used for patios and decking, it is also popular in the making of urban furniture like tables and benches.
Congratulations to the entire Biodôme team for achieving this grandiose project. Reopening of the Biodôme will be this Monday, August 31st.
