Our Company

Goodfellow Inc. is a diversified manufacturer of value-added lumber products, as well as a wholesale distributor of building materials and floor coverings. We have a distribution footprint from coast-to-coast in Canada servicing commercial and residential sectors through lumber yard retailer networks, manufacturers, industrial and infrastructure project partners, and floor covering specialists. We also leverage our value-added product capabilities to serve lumber markets internationally. We are a publicly traded company and our shares are listed on the Toronto Stock Exchange under the symbol “GDL”.

In 2009, Goodfellow acquired Oliver Lumber, a long-established hardwood and specialty distributor located in the Toronto area. Today, Oliver Lumber operates in Campbellville, ON where it distributes over 15 million board feet each year, as well as a full range of other building materials. Goodfellow acquired Quality Hardwoods in 2015, which manufactures, distributes and sells hardwoods from its operation in Powassan, Ontario. This operation continues to grow its customer base in Canada and in the US. Visit qualityhardwoodsltd.com to learn more.

Since 1872, Canbar has produced custom industrial wood and fiberglass structures mainly used for tanks, pipes, and cylinders. This know-how and specialty construction has been used for generations due to its simplicity, cost effectiveness and ease. Canbar was bought by Goodfellow in 2012. Visit canbar.com to learn more.

Our History

In 1898, George C. Goodfellow entered the lumber industry as a broker, founding Goodfellow Lumber. Within four years, he established the first Goodfellow lumber yard located in Montreal. Over the years, the Company built up their reputation for service and solidified relationships with key customers in the manufacturing sector – in particular with the automobile industry who required wood for frames and running boards.

Towards the end of the 1940’s, George C.’s son Charles Goodfellow acquired the Company and soon moved its headquarters from Montreal to Ville St. Laurent – north of the city.

In 1970, Charles’ brother George D. Goodfellow, another lumberman having owned Canadian Plywood, bought the Company and took over as President. In 1984, a strategic decision to take the Company public was made, and Goodfellow made its initial public offering on the Montreal Stock Exchange.

With sights set on expanding custom milling, treating and distribution capabilities, Richard Goodfellow (son of Charles) became President in 1989 and oversaw the move of main operations and headquarters to Delson, QC located on the south shore of Montreal.

Since 2017, Patrick Goodfellow (son of Richard) has been President supported by a strong and experienced Management Team located from coast-to-coast in Canada.

In 2023, the Company proudly celebrated its 125-year anniversary.
